The liner notes to that album state that Tommy Makem was playing a "tin whistle" in the last set (Girl I Left Behind Me/Rakes of Mallow), but listening to it it definitely sounds like a piccolo. I wonder how many written mentions of "whistles" or "flutes" actually reference a piccolo/fife.
